2016 East Wilson Street Resurfacing Project
September 16, 2016
Major construction work has been completed. The contractor has only minor restoration and general clean-up work to complete.
August 9, 2016
Construction is currently underway on the sidewalk, concrete curb replacement, and asphalt milling. Weather permitting we anticipate that the work will be substantially completed by August 19, 2016. The schedule for work has been extended due to the State funding issues which delayed the start of construction by several weeks.
Week of June 16, 2016
The contract was awarded to Geneva Construction and was been executed as of May 24th. A preconstruction meeting was held with the contractor on June 13, 2016 and the contractor has tentatively scheduled the week of June 20, 2016 to start the work. The work will take about 3 to 4 weeks and it is anticipated that the work will be completed by July 31, 2016.
The street resurfacing project will take place on East Wilson Street between Raddant Road and Kirk Road. The work consists of road base failure repairs, curb and gutter repairs, sidewalk repairs, ADA compliant sidewalk ramp construction, resurfacing between Raddant Road and Kirk Road.
Several different types of activities will be used including milling of the existing asphalt concrete surface, asphalt base patching or “dig-out” repairs, asphalt concrete overlay, curb storm inlet repairs, concrete curb and gutter spot repairs, concrete sidewalk spot repairs, traffic markings and striping, traffic control, and other related works.
In 2013, the City applied for funds thru the Federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) and was awarded funding for the project as a 75/25 percentage cost share. The estimated cost for construction and engineering for this project is $506,000. The City will receive approximately $379,000 in grant funding with the remaining portion paid for locally.
The project schedule is broken down into three phases of work:
- Phase 1 - Preliminary Engineering
- Phase 2 - Final Engineering
- Phase 3 - Bidding and Construction Phase
Currently, the City is preparing Phase 1 engineering plans for review and approval by IDOT. We anticipate Phase 1 to be completed by December 2015 and Phase 2 completed in early 2016 with the public bidding and award administered by IDOT. We expect the letting to take place in late April 2016 with construction commencing during the summer 2016.
