Wilson Street Bridge Sculpture Entries - Competition 4: "Art"
When the Donovan (Wilson Street) Bridge project was completed in 2007, the design included four piers, each with a location designated for four works of art corresponding to the categories of "Nature", "History", "Science" and "Art". Two sculptures, "Nature's Sounds of Harmony" by Kai Schulte and "A Look Back" by Oscar Leon and Jessica LoPresti have been permanently installed. "Fractal Limits" by Bruce White has been selected to represent Science and is being fabricated.
Now, the City Council is seeking to choose the fourth and final sculpture, representing the theme of "Art" and is seeking your input before making its decision. It will also be receiving the opinions of a professional sculptor who works with public art, as well as City staff in terms of durability, susceptibility to vandalism or accident and other considerations important for these long-lasting pieces to grace the bridge. The first two pieces have been overwhelmingly embraced by the community, especially our school children, and we would like your input not only for now, but for the 80-100 years the pieces are planned to last.
Please see the following images for seven entries for this competition below. Entries are presented in alphabetical order by the Artist's last name. Please send your comments to our Sculpture Email Address or use this online survey to provide your feedback. The City Council requests feedback be provided by February 4, 2017.
