WellBatavia and Race to Market 5K to be held on June 3

WellBatavia is a health and wellness fair designed to showcase the health, wellness, and fitness resources our community has to offer.  It will promote healthy living by directly increasing the health literacy of our community on an individual level with screenings, presentations and access to vendors.  The event will host 5 distinct “villages”, highlighting the following areas:

Prevention – participate in health screenings that look for diseases before you have symptoms. Learn about conditions you can detect by common health screening tests.
Healthy Practices – integrate healthy lifestyle choices in your everyday life.
Alternative Medicine – explore a range of non-traditional healing systems.

Healthy World – previously the Green Fair On the Fox, an eco-marketplace featuring local businesses, and organizations focused on a healthy world and sustainable living.Fitness – we will promote many different fitness options with free group fitness classes being offered throughout the entire event!  Check back soon to see the complete listing of fitness classes being offered and to sign up for the FREE classes!

Wastewater treatment construction in progress

The multifaceted infrastructure rehabilitation will be ongoing in Batavia. Through the first of June, utility work on Route 31 will close traffic lanes as Batavia separates stormwater and sewer lines that connect to work being done as we construct a new future for our wastewater.

Electronics recycling for Batavians

The Kane County Electronics Recycling Program offers three daily drop-off locations throughout the county, as well as one-day collection events in St. Charles.  Please visit the Kane County Recycles webpage for information about drop off locations, upcoming collection events, acceptable/unacceptable electronics items, costs, and payment options.  Most items are still free, but there will be a charge for TVs and computer monitors, depending on the screen size.  Pay online in advance (use link above) or pay at site with cash or card only.

The closest site for Batavia residents is the former Juvenile Justice Center property at 517 Fabyan Parkway, between Route 25 and Kirk Rd. on the north side of the street.  Hours are M-F from 8 am to 4 pm.  The site will be closed on Monday, May 29, for the Memorial Day holiday.

Batavians can recycle hazardous waste material at the designated City of Naperville recycling center

The Household Hazardous Waste facility in Naperville is open and available to all residents of Illinois.

Household hazardous waste items are materials purchased for cleaning or maintaining a home. Business waste is not accepted.

  • Stay in your vehicle! This is for your safety.
  • Clearly mark items in your trunk as HHW material to avoid having personal items collected by a hazmat crew member.
  • Expect that there may be a wait. This facility is one of only four household hazardous waste sites in Illinois. Hazardous materials dropped off are processed for disposal as they are received at the facility. Please only bring accepted items to help expedite the collection process.
