Windmill City Fest July 14-16!

BATAVIA, IL – Windmill City Festival has long been a staple of the community and has become a tradition for many families. Are you ready to create lasting memories and enjoy countless activities over the course of two and a half days? Then stop by the Fun Zone for interactive inflatables and family-friendly attractions, compete in a Sidewalk Chalk Drawing Contest, participate in the Pet Parade, and dive in to an Ice Cream Eating Contest. Every member of the family is sure to find a new favorite activity!

Batavia Chamber news...and Chili Cookoff coming July 29th

25th Annual State Championship Chili Cook-off delivers great competition and quality food

BATAVIA, IL – Know what is cold and warm at the same time? Chili! The Batavia Park District and Batavia Chamber of Commerce are hosting the 25th Annual State Championship Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, July 29 from 2-4 pm at the Batavia Riverwalk.

Come eat amazing chili, or for those that have a delicious recipe for chili, enter in the competition. The chili tasting is open to the public and admission is free!

Participants from all across the state will take part in the Chili Appreciation Society International championship cook-off in hopes of qualifying for the national championship in Terligua, Texas. Participants may also choose to enter in the traditional chili division. Only CASI contestants will be eligible for the state title. There will be many awards such as the People’s Choice, Showmanship and much more to earn beyond the state title. Registration can be completed online or by calling 630-879-5235. You may also register on-site. All chili must be made on site, so bring your apron!

A small donation is encouraged for those who just want to sample chili. The chili sampling is from 2-3 pm while supplies last. Concession will also be available courtesy of Bernie’s Bully Dogs.

Fox River Cleanup

Friends of the Fox River (FOFR) co-sponsored a Fox River clean-up along the Fox River in Batavia with the City of Batavia. Volunteers cleaned up the shorelines in the city and found some interesting items.  

We documented the day in video so that you can meet some of the people and families involved in this important activity.

Due to the anticipated interest in the subject matter of the 8/2/17 meeting, space to attend the meeting may become a consideration. If required due to overflow capacity, the meeting may need to be tabled and moved to another location with more attendance capacity two weeks later. 


Batavia Residential Brush Collection Schedule for July

The eastside brush collection was completed this week; westside collection begins the week of Monday, July 17.  Please be sure to have your brush out no later than 7 a.m. on Monday of your scheduled week.  Residents are asked to store their brush outside the parkway until the weekend before the scheduled pickup.  The complete 2017 schedule and information about how to prepare your brush can be found on the Brush Collection information page.  If you have any questions, please call the Street Division at 630-454-2400.

Before you dig anywhere on your property, it is wise to call 811 for a preventative visit.  Please allow a 48-hour notice (two working days), but no more than a 14-calendar day advance notice prior to the start of excavation

Calling 811 Keeps you and your property safe from potential harm from gas lines or other underground infrastructure. You can also prevent damage or lost services in electrical, cable and other connections. 


Kane County Electronics Recycling Event on July 8, 2017

The Kane County Electronics Recycling Program offers three daily drop-off locations throughout the county, as well as one-day collection events in St. Charles.  Please visit the Kane County Recycles webpage for information about drop off locations, upcoming collection events, acceptable/unacceptable electronics items, costs, and payment options.  Most items are still free, but there will be a charge for TVs and computer monitors, depending on the screen size.  Pay online in advance (use link above) or pay at site with cash or card only. 

The closest site for Batavia residents is the former Juvenile Justice Center property at 517 Fabyan Parkway, between Route 25 and Kirk Rd. on the north side of the street.  Hours are M-F from 8 am to 4 pm.  The site will be closed on Monday, May 29, for the Memorial Day holiday. 


Document shredding is also offered for residents only with a four-box limit; must be in paper bags or boxes.  Fees may be paid online in advance or onsite by exact cash or card; paint is cash or check only. It is recommended that you pay online in advance if possible and bring your receipt to any drop-off or the collection event. Unloading assistance is provided.  A complete list of accepted items and more information can be found on the Kane County Recycles website.  Hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators are not accepted.

Batavia Chamber of Commerce releases new edition of popular game featuring local attractions
Many of you are already aware, we have made a Batavia Board Game! The game features the Batavia Public Library, Batavia Public School District, Batavia MainStreet, City of Batavia, Fermilab, Batavia Park District, and many of your favorite businesses and organizations around Batavia.  All the properties are named after streets in Batavia.  You and your family will also be able to play using custom pewter pieces including: a bulldog, a lighthouse, Wilson Hall, Bruce the Spruce, Mr. Egghead, and even Mayor Schielke! 

Pre-sales have already started and will continue throughout the summer.  You can visit us at Batavia Farmers Market on July 8th and July 22nd, the Batavia Fireworks Show, and during Windmill City Festival.  You can also reserve your game by calling Batavia Chamber of Commerce at 630-879-7134.  Each game is $25.  A limited quantity will be available at select Batavia retailers, but reserving your game now guarantees you will be able to receive one.  These games make wonderful gifts and will be in hand for the holiday season!

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce has announced   Catherine Fitcas Special Event and Marketing Coordinator. Catherine has lived in Batavia for over 17 years with her husband and 2 sons. She has been volunteering in the community for many years, including being the chairperson of the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence. She is equally excited to be working with the Chamber and looks forward to working with everyone!
