One Washington Place progress

The following actions have been taken on the One Washington Place project.

  • We have notified the business owners in the immediate area that the demolition project has been suspended and that it will resume in late winter/early spring 2018.

  • We have directed our vibration consultant, VibraTech, to perform “final” inspections and to remove their equipment at this time.

  • VibraTech will provide the City with a proposal to perform similar monitoring work when demolition resumes in 2018.

  • KLF has agreed to hold the current contract pricing and return to finish the work in 2018.  This is good news in that it will eliminate the need to re-bid the project and will allow us to re-mobilize quicker once the project is ready to proceed.

  • The OWP property will not be an active construction site during the winter months.  Therefore, it needs to be stabilized to prevent erosion over the Fall/Winter.  Scott Haines is securing quotes from landscapers to topsoil, blanket and seed the disturbed landscape areas.

  • “Permanent” fencing will be installed along the perimeter of the old ServiceMaster foundation to mitigate the fall hazard. Once that fencing is in place the temporary construction fencing surrounding the site can be removed.

  • Discussions related to potential revisions to the RDA are ongoing between Staff, Shodeen and our respective counsels.  We are confident that positive progress is being made.

Street crackfilling starts September 6

The City of Batavia will be starting its annual Street Crackfilling project on September 6, 2017. The contract was awarded to SKC Construction, Inc. of West Dundee and it is anticipated that it will take about 6 weeks to complete.

Each year, the city evaluates its streets and selects cost-effective maintenance treatments to enhance and extend the useful life of the pavement. When a pavement is relatively in better condition, crackfill is applied to extend the life of the pavement and reduce spot repairs such as potholes.

The Crackfill Program is a very cost effective program and is performed each year on a number of city streets to prevent water from entering the pavement and reduce the spread of cracking.

The program includes cleaning and sealing cracks, voids or joints in the street that are two inches (2”) in width or less with either a fiber-reinforced asphalt cement product.
Crackfilling is a mobile operation that results in minimal disturbance to residences, businesses and motorists, however, lane closures may be required when the contractor is working along major thoroughfares. The roadways will remain open to at least one lane of traffic in each direction at all times and any lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to minimize the impact during peak travel times.  Parking may be restricted for short periods of time when the contractor is working along local streets.

A map showing the streets to be crackfilled is also available on the City website at:
