Home Rule Info

Home Rule Information (here)

A petition has been filed with the City Clerk to put the following question on the November 6, 2018 ballot:

“Shall the City of Batavia cease to be a home rule unit?”

The City may not use public resources either to advocate for or against this proposition, but we want to make every effort to provide voters with factual information so that they may make an informed decision.

For that purpose, the City has created a page on its website where residents can find helpful information for education about what home rule allows and also the limits of home rule authority. The City intends to add to these educational materials on an ongoing basis and to hold meetings to respond to any questions that you may have about home rule.

College and Wilson Street Drainage Improvements

The underground work is completed. For the remainder of this week and going into next week the curbs and sidewalk will be poured and the road will be patched followed by miscellaneous topsoil and seeding.
No on-street parking will be allowed in the construction area and there may be times when the roads will be closed to thru traffic. Construction equipment staged on the street will be barricaded off every night. In addition, some material will be staged in the parkways.  More information on this project can be found on the project webpage at

2018 Ward 1 Storm Sewer Construction Update

The majority of construction work for the Phase 1 storm sewer project has now been completed. For the week beginning Monday October 1, Performance Construction will continue with the landscape restoration, punchlist, and overall clean-up portion of the work. We expect that overall project will be finally completed by October 12.
This project has been challenging in terms of the construction process and as it relates to the impact to residents. We would just like to thank all the residents who live along Giese Road, Larkspur,  Woodland Hills Road, and Garden Court who have been extremely patient throughout the construction process.
This is a very large project and we look forward to seeing an overall improvement in the stormwater drainage in the Ward 1 area. More information on this project can be found on the project webpage at
