Deerpath & Main Intersection Project in Progress

This is a joint project between the City of Batavia and Kane County. The work consists generally of widening both Main Street and Deerpath Road and installing a traffic signal. The scope of work will have both directions of Main Street and Deerpath Road accessible to traffic with the use of staged construction. Weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting, we anticipate this project to be completed in early September, 2019. Current Status 5-2-19: Underground utility work is currently underway with daily lane closures. Within the next week, traffic control will change to a lane-shift to the south side of Main Street. In accordance with the city’s code, maximum construction working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. City Launches Online Application for Overnight Parking

The City of Batavia has an overnight parking ordinance which prohibits parking on all City of Batavia streets between the hours of 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.  Realizing that there are situations when citizens may need a temporary exemption, a process has been developed for residents to request a permit.

A resident may request a temporary exemption for vehicles owned by them or by guests staying at their residence. Permission will be considered only if the resident does not have enough space within their garage and driveway to accommodate all their vehicles or guests’ vehicles. There are no permanent exemptions. For exemptions extending beyond three nights, residents are required to contact the Police Department at 630-454-2500 for authorization. Residents seeking permitting for three nights or less are encouraged to complete the electronic overnight permit application

In order to be considered for a permit, residents must include their name, location of the vehicle, make/model/color of the vehicle, vehicle plate number and state. Residents will need to indicate the date(s) for which the exemption is being requested.  Persons and/or vehicles that have outstanding tickets will not be granted permission for overnight parking privileges until all fines/fees are paid. Commercial vehicles, recreational vehicles, and trailers are prohibited from parking on city streets. Requests for permission to park these larger vehicles must be made by contacting the Police Department Administration. There are additional restrictions in place regarding the number of permits that can be granted to an individual or vehicle within a 14-day time frame.

When there is a forecast for snow fall of two inches or more, the snow parking ordinance will supersede any parking exemptions. The City of Batavia reserves the right to deny on-street parking for emergency purposes. Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Batavia Police Department at (630) 454-2500.
