Brush Collection

The east side collection was completed this week; the next west side brush collection begins the week of Monday, September 21. Brush should be at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday of your scheduled week but no sooner than the weekend before that. For more information about the program, including the 2015 schedule, please click here or call 630-454-2400.

Businesses Open During Construction
Please remember that no businesses are closed due to the Houston Street Project.  The Popcorn Depot, Open Range, Depot Museum, the Professional Building and all the businesses on Island Avenue are all easily accessible at all times, though you may find yourself waling just a bit further for a parking space. Please cross your fingers for continued good work weather.

Houston Street Update

The following is a status update and work scheduled for the week of September 21:

  • On Monday, September 21, Thorne Electric will be finished installing conduits for street lighting.  They will return to install the street light foundations once the mainline curbs are completed.
  • The storm sewer work is now completed.
  • The irrigation sleeves between the planter islands are now completed.
  • The concrete contractor is on site starting the concrete installation for the planter islands.   They have underestimated the level of expectation we have with the planter curbs and it now looks like they will be working on them through most of next week. We plan to have the sidewalk completed on the east side of Island Ave. next week.  As of right now, we are planning on roadway curbs being done the week of October 5.
  • The removal of the asphalt is planned for the week of September 21.  Once this is done, there will be excavation equipment preparing the subgrade prior to placing the base course.  As mentioned in the last update, once this process is complete, there is a small amount of underdrain to install prior to installing the curbs.  Access across Water St. and Island Ave. will be kept open but there will be minor delays at times at these intersections.
