The Slow Down Campaign

The Slow Down campaign has returned to raise driving safety awareness in the City of Batavia and you can join other residents by posting a sign up at your home. For those picking up signs to post, here are guidelines on how far back from the curb the signs should be placed to avoid placing them in the parkways:

- Thirteen feet away from the curb if you have a sidewalk.
- Nineteen (or more) feet away from curb without sidewalk.

You can pick up your signs at the following offices:
City of Batavia (upstairs in reception)
Batavia Park District (central offices on Wilson Street)
Batavia School District (Rosalie Jones admin center on Wilson)
Batavia Public Library (at the main checkout desk.)

Let's keep our community safe this summer.

When the campaign ends July 12, please take down your signs. We encourage you to keep them for use year to year.

Deerpath & Main Intersection Project in Progress

This is a joint project between the City of Batavia and Kane County. The work consists generally of widening both Main Street and Deerpath Road and installing a traffic signal. The scope of work will have both directions of Main Street and Deerpath Road accessible to traffic with the use of staged construction. Weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting, we anticipate this project to be completed in early September, 2019. Current Status 5-24-19: The wet weather has limited the storm sewer installation work this week. Storm sewer and earthwork to continue next week. In accordance with the city’s code, maximum construction working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. If you have any questions about the project, please feel free to contact Chris Bong with the City of Batavia Engineering Division at 630-454-2752. For detailed project updates please visit the City's website.

2019 Ward 1 Storm Sewer Construction

As of May 24, the contractor, Performance Construction, has completed the majority of watermain construction. Beginning on Tuesday, May 28 the contractor will finish connecting to the existing watermain on Chillem Dr and then will continue flushing and chlorinating the new main. Water services will be installed after the new watermain has passed all proper testing. The contractor has now delivered some of the precast concrete pipe materials and will begin installation of along the east side of Larkspur Ln starting at Giese Rd and working north. The contractor will be trimming some of the tree limbs that overhang into the ROW to allow room for the excavation equipment and for the installation of the new large diameter storm sewer. This also helps to prevent inadvertent damage to the trees during construction. Driveway access will be impacted along the east side of Larkspur Lane while the new storm sewer is being installed. You should be receiving a door tag notification at least one day in advance prior to the construction work crossing your driveway.
AT&T is currently relocating their utilities along Bluestem Ln north of Chillem Dr and should be completed sometime in the next few weeks. Comcast will also be relocating utilities along the east and west side of Bluestem Ln just north of Chillem Dr sometime in the next 1-2 weeks.

Please be aware that no on-street parking will be allowed in the construction area along Larkspur Ln, Bluestem Ln, and Chillem Dr. Some equipment and materials will be staged on street and in the parkway on Larkspur Ln, Clover Ct, and Giese Rd. Construction equipment staged on the street will be barricaded off every night. Residents and motorists are advised to expect delays in the area due to construction activities.

Help Keep Storm Drains Clear

Residents are asked to assist the City by clearing their storm drains of any leaves/buds/flowers/grass that may be covering them. This will help alleviate potential street flooding. We appreciate your assistance.
