Temporary Traffic Change on Wilson Street Next Week

Next week starting on Tuesday, construction will begin on a water service installation at 107 E Wilson St. This will require temporary traffic control to be set up and westbound lanes will be shifted over to the left turn lane. Westbound traffic will be transitioned back on the west side of River Street. The Parking spaces on the north side of east of 107 E Wilson will be closed off during this time. The work is expected to take place between 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM and scheduled for completion by the end of the week.

It's been a successful campaign across the city having signs up to remind residents and visitors to drive safely in the community. As school starts this week, please remember to be cautious, safe, and alert during this transition.

August Brush Collection

The east side collection was completed this week; west side collection begins Monday, August 19. Brush and limbs are to be at the curb for collection no later than 7 a.m. on Monday of your scheduled week, and no sooner than the weekend before that. Please visit the Brush Collection page to learn more about the program and view the 2019 schedule. If you have any questions, please call 630-454-2400.

Lawn Watering Restrictions

“The City has received numerous complaints of residents not abiding by the lawn watering restrictions. The Water Department, in conjunction with the Batavia PD and code enforcement will begin vigilantly patrolling and ticketing offenders. We ask that you please follow the restrictions outlined in the Ordinance.”

City of Batavia Ordinance #13-05 limits the use of water for lawn sprinkling to:
• Even-numbered addresses on even-numbered calendar days
• Odd-number address on odd-numbered calendar days. 
• Watering must take place between the hours of 6-9 am and 6-9 pm only. 
Hand-held hose watering is permitted any time for flowers, gardens, lawns, trees & shrubs. 

Watering of new sod or seeded lawns requires a permit, a permit can be obtained at the Community Development Department, 100 N. Island Ave. (No permits for sod/seed will be issued during the months of July and August)

Parkway Tree Program

The City of Batavia is again offering its residents the opportunity to purchase a parkway tree on a 50/50 cost-sharing basis. The available species are locally grown, quality trees that do well in City parkways, and we offer a variety of species each year to provide a diversified parkway tree population for our community. Area 3 Storm Sewer Separation & Watermain Replacement Construction

Performance Construction has been working on the Area 3 Storm Sewer Separation & Watermain Replacement project since the week of 7/29. The week of 8/19 Performance will continue installing storm sewer on Blaine with the possibility of construction occurring on Harrison for sanitary improvements . Pipe will continued to be delivered onsite and left in the street for staging. Storm sewer will be installed on Jefferson first between Morton and Blaine and then on Blaine Street past Harrison. Construction will require local road closures throughout the duration of the project. The road closures will be moving closures corresponding with the construction.  More information can be found on the project’s webpage. Work is anticipated to be completed by late fall 2019 for a winter shutdown and then remaining work to be completed in the spring of 2020. If you have any questions regarding this project please contact Andrea Podraza in the Engineering Department at (630) 454-2757.

Streambank Stabilization of Mahoney Creek at Woodland Hills Park and Wilson Street

C&H Excavating, Inc. has been awarded the Streambank Stabilization project for both locations. This week grading was completed at Wilson Street and restoration should be completed by the end of the 8/19 week. Grading started at Woodland Hills Park last week and includes grading, installing a settling basin, plants and hardscape to prevent erosion and settling along the creekbanks. Kane County Fabyan Parkway Bridge Repairs

The Kane County Division of Transportation began repairs June 10 on the Fabyan Parkway Bridge. They estimate to complete this project by December 2019. More information here.

Kane County Road Work at Fabyan and Kirk

Road work began July 8 at the intersection of Fabyan and Kirk. This construction entails shifting traffic and putting in new temporary lanes to facilitate a future build-out of an improved intersection. 

2019 Ward 1 Storm Sewer Construction

The week of August 12th, Geneva Construction has completed the installation of the asphalt binder course on Larkspur Lane, Chillem Drive, and Bluestem Lane. Geneva Construction cancelled asphalt driveway patching work for this week and expects to begin this work next week. Door notifications will be passed out before the day before of the work if your driveway will be impacted. If you receive a door notice please remove your vehicle by 7am of the date work is to start.  Landscape restoration of the parkway areas will also begin the week of August 19th. Final asphalt surface course will be placed once the landscape restoration has been completed.

Deerpath & Main Intersection Project in Progress

This is a joint project between the City of Batavia and Kane County. The work consists generally of widening both Main Street and Deerpath Road and installing a traffic signal. The scope of work will have both directions of Main Street and Deerpath Road accessible to traffic with the use of staged construction. Weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting, we anticipate this project to be completed in October, 2019. Current Status 8-16-19: Traffic signal conduit installation is continuing at the intersection. Concrete curbs will be installed on Deerpath. The Deerpath Rd. entrance to Holy Cross will be closed next week for concrete apron and curb installation, please use the Main St. entrance.  In accordance with the city’s code, maximum construction working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Kirk Road at Pine Street Intersection Improvement

The week of Monday, May 6, 2019, Kane County began performing construction activities beginning at the intersection of Kirk Road and Pine Street in Batavia, Kane County. During the work, there may be temporary single lane closures of Kirk Road with flaggers directing traffic. Construction work hours will be allowed from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday.
