Department Operations during COVID-19 Pandemic
The Community & Economic Development Department operations have been modified in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Below is a summary of current operation changes.
- The Community & Economic Development Department office at City Hall is currently closed to visitors. All Department functions remain in operation, including the Building, Code Compliance, Economic Development and Planning & Zoning divisions and may be contacted by phone or e-mail.
- Permits can be submitted for review through the One Stop Permit Portal, through the Permit E-mail Account and via a Drop Box in the City Hall Lobby.
- Payments may be made through the secure mailbox in the City Hall Lobby, through the One Stop Permit Portal with a complete application, or a credit card via phone.
- All inspections continue to be scheduled and performed. Please limit the number of people present on the job to one person. On residential properties, family members should be away from the inspection area. All persons present must be masked for the inspection to occur.

About the Department
The Community & Economic Development Department coordinates and reviews development in the City of Batavia. The department reviews these projects for compliance with the city's Comprehensive Plan, zoning and building codes. The department is made up of planners, inspectors, and code compliance personnel.
These individuals oversee, review and inspect all development and construction in the city. The department also provides technical support to elected and appointed city officials, residents, business owners and other governmental units, in order to insure development and construction that comply with the goals of city and all applicable codes.

The City of Batavia now has an online application program that makes it simple for homeowners, businesses, licensed professionals, developers and contactors to apply for permits. You can now apply for permits, schedule inspections, and pay for your permit using a credit card all online.
